Workforce Readiness Assessment

“Work role. Requirement. Evidence. Gap. Pathway.”

Reviewing cyber workforce qualification evidence for a workforce readiness assessment

The Workforce Equivalent of a CMMC Gap Analysis

Our CMMC gap analysis tests every control against real evidence. A Workforce Readiness Assessment does the same for people: it tests each person’s qualification evidence against what their DoD 8140 work role (DCWF) and proficiency level require.

You leave with a Workforce Readiness Scorecard — who is qualified, who is partly qualified, and who has a gap — and a prioritized pathway to close each gap.

What You Provide

We work from the records you already keep. Everything is handled under NDA.

  • Personnel roster for staff doing cyber work
  • Position and job descriptions
  • Contract labor categories and SOW/PWS cyber requirements
  • Assigned cyber functions and privileged access
  • Current certifications and expiry dates
  • Degrees and completed training
  • Relevant experience
  • Any existing 8570 or 8140 tracking records

What You Receive

Cyber role mapping

Each person mapped to a primary DCWF work role and any additional roles they actually perform.

Proficiency-level mapping

Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced for each role, based on the work as it’s really done.

Qualification status per person

Qualification, practical skills, and continuous development status, tested against the evidence on file.

Workforce Readiness Scorecard

One view of the whole covered workforce, with risk-ranked gaps leadership can act on.

Certification pathways

The education, training, or certification option and the practical skills validation steps that close each gap.

Roadmap and executive readout

A sequenced remediation roadmap, walked through with your leadership team.

Illustrative example, not client data. Qualification = DoD 8140 foundational qualification; Skills = resident (on-the-job) qualification; Development = continuous professional development. Work-role assignments and requirements are confirmed against the current DCWF and DoD qualification matrices on every engagement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a DoD 8140 gap assessment?

Yes. It’s built on DoD 8140 and the DoD Cyber Workforce Framework: we test each person against the foundational, resident, and continuous professional development requirements for their work role and proficiency level.

Who should we include?

Everyone who does cyber work, not just the security team: system and network administrators, help desk and technical support, cloud and DevSecOps engineers, software developers on DoD systems, data and AI roles, and the people who manage them. The DCWF covers seven workforce elements.

We’re working on CMMC too. Can these run together?

Yes. Much of the input overlaps — the access lists, roles, and privileged users in your CMMC evidence feed the workforce mapping — and one VIS team handles both.

Does the assessment make our people qualified?

No. It shows where each person stands and the path to close each gap. Qualification decisions rest with the DoD component or your contract’s requirements; VIS doesn’t issue DoD qualifications.

How is it priced?

It’s scoped to the number of people, work roles, and contracts in scope. Book a free consultation and we’ll send a scoped proposal.
