“Detect. Evaluate. Report. Prove it runs.”
FedRAMP’s Vulnerability Rules Become Mandatory on 7 December 2026
FedRAMP Notice 0014 makes the Vulnerability Detection and Response (VDR) and Vulnerability Evaluation and Reporting (VER) rules mandatory for every cloud service obtaining or maintaining FedRAMP Certification, effective 7 December 2026. The rules align FedRAMP with CISA Binding Operational Directive 26-04.
A service that isn’t following them by then can keep its certification under a corrective action plan, with agencies notified, through 7 March 2027. After that, FedRAMP says certification will be revoked.
Applies to every certified service — Rev5 and FedRAMP 20x, every class — and to services applying for certification. Status as of 14 October 2026.

- FedRAMP 20x-certified services
- Providers applying for any class under CR26
- Teams whose scanning doesn’t cover the full Minimum Assessment Scope
- Teams tracking vulnerabilities in tickets and spreadsheets
- Teams that can’t yet produce the reports the rules call for
What the Sprint Covers
Rule-by-rule gap check
Your current vulnerability program mapped to each VDR and VER rule, with the gaps ranked.
Detection coverage
Scanning and detection checked against your Minimum Assessment Scope, so nothing in scope goes unscanned.
Evaluation and response workflow
How findings are evaluated, prioritized, remediated or accepted, written down the way the rules expect.
Reporting outputs
The reports and machine-readable data the rules call for, produced by your tools rather than by hand.
Automation and evidence
Validations as code that show the process runs, feeding your compliance platform or evidence pipeline.
Corrective action plan
If 7 December isn’t reachable, a dated plan to finish within the grace period that ends 7 March 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the 7 December deadline apply to Rev5 services?
Yes. FedRAMP Notice 0014 makes the VDR and VER rules mandatory for all cloud service offerings obtaining or maintaining FedRAMP Certification, Rev5 and 20x alike.
What happens if we miss 7 December 2026?
FedRAMP lets a service keep its certification under a corrective action plan, with agencies notified, through 7 March 2027. After that, certification is revoked for services not following the rules.
How do these rules relate to CISA BOD 26-04?
FedRAMP Notice 0014 aligns the VDR and VER rules with CISA Binding Operational Directive 26-04. We map your program to the FedRAMP rules, which are what your certification depends on.
Do you report to FedRAMP for us?
No. Your organization stays accountable for its certification and its reports. We build and review; your team runs the process and submits.
How long does the sprint take, and how is it priced?
It depends on the size of your scope and the tools you already run. It’s a fixed-scope project, quoted after a free scoping call.
